Game of thrones snubbed
Much of the backlash also stemmed from the questionable character development and wastefulness of key figures. Despite the overwhelming distaste for Game of Thrones season 8, the HBO epic received a record-breaking 32 Emmy nominations. The Emmy nominations could, at times, indicate which direction other award shows will take, including the Golden Globes.
But the fact is, the Golden Globes never really cared for Game of Thrones in the past either. Considering Game of Thrones ' final season scored a record-breaking amount of nominations for the Emmys, it might come as a surprise that the series was snubbed at the Golden Globes.
Game of Thrones was previously nominated for Best Drama Series at the Golden Globes in , , , , and but it has never won in the category. Just because Game of Thrones won for the same category at the Emmys this year, the HFPA obviously felt like the final season didn't reach its potential to garner even a Best Drama Series nomination.
The HFPA has been known to share the same zeitgeist of the general public when it comes to the buzz surrounding a project. Rather than celebrate Game of Thrones for reaching a conclusion with ant action-packed finale season, the HFPA took into account the disappointment and backlash surrounding the series. Some have said it's a travesty, while others feel as though maybe the series needed a couple of losses on its way out the door. Biggest snubs for me are And the female cast of GameofThrones Emmys pic.
I'm sorry, but to snub all of the great actresses in Game of Thrones that basically saved the 8th season from terrible writing and then give BEST drama series to GOT is a travesty. That is all Emmys GameOfThrones. Me during the Emmys tonight. I watched all three hours of the Emmys for them to snub every female actress from game of thrones, like really? I am madddd. In , Game of Thrones had just walked into the room and proceeded to behead the man whose face was promoting the show on the side of every bus in Hollywood.
That was cool. The Emmys had awarded Peter Dinklage, who made an amazing speech on diversity. The Globes wanted to be cool like that. But by Season 2, Game of Thrones was now popular, and no longer cool. The Golden Globes didn't even bother to nominate the show again until Season 4, and since then, it's been mostly courtesy nods for longevity and impressive budget spending.
This year is no different. Like Seasons 4 and 5, Game of Thrones Season 7 landed only one nomination. Lena Headey did get a nod last year for her impressive show of murdering a third of the cast with one blow. But it's not like anyone was going to vote for her to win.
