Sims 2 castaway guide
Then go to the left side of the beach where the two silver feet are and click "Explore. When I state "Left" or "Right" side of a beach, I do so from the point of view of being in the water facing the beach. A couple of quick side notes before you set out…. Harvesting non-food items increases your Body skill. Harvesting Food increases your Cooking and Logic skills.
Socializing increases your Charisma skill. You will encounter "unknown" plants and trees in all areas of the game. Simply select Identify and your Sim will taste it. If it's non-edible food he will throw up after doing so. Harvest it anyway as everything in the game has a purpose. Start off by making sure you have Banana's in stock. Give a chimp a banana and your Social Motive unlocks. Use other options with the chimp until you reach the Friend level.
That chimp will then gather for you and bring you green packages of supplies. When a chimp approaches you with a green package, simply choose "Respond" and the chimp will give the package to you while your Sim automatically gives your chimp a banana.
This will also serve to complete the "Befriend a chimp" and "Get a chimp to gather for you" goals as well as unlock plans for Chimp of Portent art. It may not seem as if your chimp gathers much, but remember, the more chimps you befriend, the more chimps you have gathering from you. If you have a crew, the chimps they befriend bring them packages as well! It really adds up! If you happen to miss getting the package from the chimp, search the ground around the area you are in.
They tend to drop them if you don't take them. Be sure you pick them up and read them. Some are funny and some may even be from your crewmates. There's also a Treasure Map piece that will appear randomly in one of them. Once you've read the message you will want to keep the bottle by selecting "Put it away.
Smash them open to recover lost shipments of clothing, garden gnomes, etc. So be sure to harvest them whenever you can! They will look like a rock sitting under the water and when you swim over them it will say "Harvest clams. You can then use the R Joystick to move the cursor over the area you wish to go then press X to select it.
You are automatically sent to that location which saves some major travel time! If you want to go to a different island just use the L1 or R1 buttons to shift back and forth between islands on the map. You also complete the "Explore the Jungle" goal. The very first thing you want to do here is to walk straight, pass the big boulder on your right, then pick up the Hieroglyphic piece near the Fireflies.
There are a total of 9 Hieroglyphic pieces throughout the game, and you will need them to access areas later on. Take time to explore the jungle and harvest as many supplies as you can. Get as many vines as you can! Trust me, you're going to need them!!
Gather enough supplies to make the axe, return to First Beach and craft the axe at the Crafting Bench, then return to jungle and harvest wood along with all of the other supplies.
It really doesn't matter which you do, though the latter would make more sense! When you harvest Rattan, new clothing plans will unlock. Once you have the Stone Axe all wood you harvest will be Softwood. Stock up now because a lot of these trees will later switch to Hardwood and Softwood becomes scarcer.
If you check the Plans section of this guide you will see just how much Softwood is used! Once you have gathered all you can from this area, move to the top part of the jungle until you see the silver feet and go on to Shipwreck Lagoon. The first order of business here is to walk onto the deck of the ship and retrieve the 2nd Hieroglyphic piece.
The only other thing to do here is to gather all you can — including harvesting clams. Now head back the way you came in, only instead of heading right and back to the jungle, head left to Pier Beach. Now grab the King Loofalava statue from beside the second stone pillar. If you choose to "Inspect" the right pillar you will receive a new goal — to reach other islands. This will also unlock plans for a raft. If you do not yet have all of these items go and gather them. If you have been gathering then the Body skill won't be an issue.
However, if you haven't been building anything, the Mechanical skill level will be. What I usually do is to go around the entire island gathering supplies first.
I then build an open shack, Improvised Cot, and Bamboo Spear. Once that is done, gather all you can from Pier Beach. Then rest up, build your Raft, and select "Explore. Not to worry as some of them will have to wait for the 2nd and 3rd islands! At least one crewmember should be here on this beach.
Great them and it will fulfill the "Find a crewmate" goal and unlock plans for the Death Daisy Potion brings a fallen Sim back to life. Your Hygiene Motive will also be unlocked. For now though you can only swim to bathe, but you can choose different hairstyles and facial hair. You cannot control other Sims until they join your tribe. To do this you have to get your social level with the Sim to around The more points you get the more options there are to choose from.
Once you reach around 25 the option "Special" comes up. When you choose Special it will say "Ask to join tribe. I've never had a Sim tell me no. Once they are a part of your tribe you can then ask them to leave the tribe by following the same steps.
Only this time under Special it will say "Ask to leave tribe. I always find it easiest to get the crewmate to join your tribe right away.
Otherwise they sometimes wander off and you have to find them all over again. Now that that is done you should gather what items you can from this beach. As you wander take note of the boulder sticking out of the rock wall in the small cove to the right of the beach where the Pineapples are.
It sits just beside a Soybean bush, and you will need to return to this spot later in the game once you have collected all of the Treasure Map pieces. I then declare this Home. You can build a Home Tiki anywhere you wish and declare it home. It will simply make this one inactive; so don't worry about not being able to do so later. By doing this now you give yourself and your crewmates a place to fill their motives. If your crewmates don't have that they will die.
When they do have it, they will take care of themselves if they are tired, hungry, etc. It will also let you assign jobs to your Sim. To do this, simply walk up to the Home Tiki and choose Sign up for a job. You can then use L2 to change to another Sim and do the same so they have a job. Then use L2 again to change back to yourself if you wish. Your other crewmate will carry out their job whether you control them or not. Once this is done I gather all items that I can from the beach then go exploring.
The first thing you will want to do is to go up to the airplane wreckage you see just ahead on your left and put the Airplane Radio into your inventory. If the radio is on, turn it off and it will then let you put it in your inventory. Make time to befriend these new chimps so they will gather for you. Be sure to harvest Ti Leaves, as they unlock more clothing plans.
Here you should be able to harvest Hardwood for the first time. This will unlock plans for the Hardwood Crafting Bench. Be sure to build all Benches as you get the plans for them because they all have their own items and tools.
Harvest everything you can from this area then go into the Dark Cave Look for the cave opening with Silver Feet above it. Since this is not a large area it's very easy to find. First go near the door with the round circle in it it's the only door in the place.
Pick up the 4th Hieroglyphic piece lying to the left of the door. You can inspect the door now if you want, but you will need to return later to open it. Next, go to the pond with the fireflies above it and get the Prince Loofalava statue that sits to the right of the pond. Go around and pick up all of the stones. If you have the tools you need, harvest Obsidian. If not, don't sweat it! Head to the second pathway to the right of the 3 small ponds.
You will see a small path leading up hill with 2 small pillars at the bottom and Silver Feet at the top. Once you've rested just sleep in cave using your Sleeping Mat , explore here next. On the ground slightly to the left of the face is your 5th Hieroglyphic piece. Pick it up. Hug the rock wall and head to the left of the face until you find the clay deposit. Harvest clay. Choosing the right roof is both an important step in this direction and an unprecedented feature in the series, where roofs were more of a nice touch than a vital necessity.
Later in the game, enormous huts can be realized from complex blueprints: have you ever thought of making glass windows from sand? One of the first necessary steps is creating a series of useful tools, starting from basic materials such as stone, bamboo and vines.
A chisel is necessary to build basic pieces of furniture, while spears can be used to fish that's prior to creating a fishing pole or hunt wildlife. Boars are aggressive and often destroy the result of hours of hard work, so why not hunt them and stock up on meat and skin? Chickens can be useful too, if only you can catch them. Unfortunately, they have the bad habit of running away, so the only way to get them is to build a chicken trap.
They can then be kept in a poultry pen, supplying a constant stream of eggs, meat and feathers. The only non-huntable animal species are the chimpanzees, who live in big families on the islands. Each family has a different personality and Sims can build relationships with them. They can help with basic tasks, or even make up for the lack of human friends. The evolution of the Sim characters is less theoretical now, as one would expect from such a borderline starting situation.
Skills are built by performing practical tasks, such as creating new objects and exploring the surroundings. Evolved Sims will either excel in their mechanical abilities or their physical qualities, according to the preferences of players. The basic necessities of characters, traditionally indicated by green meters on screen, are still there but this time they play a minor role.
Eating and resting are essential to survive, but -- good news! When they have to, the sea is a good place to satisfy both necessities. Extra care is required when characters are exploring the interiors of islands with no running water or thermal springs: after a few days they will stink and be uncomfortable, so that a visit back to the sea or further exploration becomes necessary.
Much later in the game, Sims can even learn how to build showers that collect rainwater. An unnecessary but absolutely engaging aspect of the game is the creation of clothes and accessories.
